Greetings Family and Friends,
Well after much thought, and more procrastination, I finally decided to do a blog. While I have maintained a facebook account for a couple of years, I felt I needed a better outlet for all of my crazy stories from our ever eventful life. I will be using this site to keep my friends and family up to date with our life as it happens here in the "Burgh". I should warn you all up front, I am a better story teller than I am a writer. Maybe doing this site will help those skills. So if your having a bad day and need a good laugh or uplifting story, come visit my page! Let it begin!!!

Life in the "Burgh", as it's called, has been eventful. While we found ways to make Oshkosh interesting, getting cancer and all, Pittsburgh seems to be interesting all by itself.
We moved here in August. It was just 6 weeks after Kat was born. We moved into a very cheap apartment. It was exactly what we needed in so many ways , so I overlooked how scary it was. When we begin to unload the moving truck I realized how scary it really was. I have decided there is a different level of dirty when describing a 100 year old building. All you folks out west in your new homes and neighborhoods built 1960's or newer don't know DIRT! Well lets just say my windows hadn't been cleaned since before your neighborhoods where built! After weeks of cleaning and unpacking, our apartment is starting to look quite charming. It definitely feels "city" with an old world charm. Right when I started liking the place, we went through a heat wave. Our place has no A/C. We were miserably hot. Kat who never cries, wouldn't stop. I scrounged up $50 and took the girls to Home Depot to get a window A/C unit. Ava chanted "no more heat" the whole way there. As we stood in front of the air conditioning section at Home Depot, our hopes were dashed. The cheapest unit was $99.99. I said a little prayer in my heart that we would find some relief from the 90 plus heat in our apartment. On the ground I saw a unit that was out of the box and missing a nob. It was a bit scratched up but seemed like it would work. I asked for a manager. When he arrived I simply told him that I only had $50 dollars and wondered if he would discount the unit to that price. He said that was too much of a discount. When I was about to leave he asked me to wait a minute and picked up the unit to bring behind the service desk. He plugged it in to make sure it was working. He looked at me and the girls. He then got a cart, put the unit in and handed it to me with a ticket that said $49.99. He looked at me and said "God bless you sweetheart". I held back the tears. I knew it was an act of kindness on his part to discount the A/C unit that much. We went home triumphant, and installed the unit ourselves. Dan thought we were pretty resourceful. Since then many times we have been blessed with simply acts of kindness that have made our adjustment here so much easier. I will write next week with our Halloween events and any interesting stories worth sharing. Have a great week!

Yay, so happy you have joined the blogging world! What a blessing that was for the man to discount it for you!
ReplyDeleteShauna, your story-telling comes through in your writing. So glad you've joined the blog-wagon. If you need a blogspot tutor, I can walk you through the basics, like changing the backgrounds or adding music, etc.(not that there's anything wrong with your layout...) Miss you tons! So glad you're being taken care of with those tender mercies (of course, we knew you would be!) Love you!
ReplyDeleteHey Shauna, I look forward to reading your crazy stories
